Love you guys
I was supposed to just write this as a comment on my page but I realized I should just put it in my blog
Math 17 midterms got canceled today
Grrr. We were halfway through the test when the profs called us off and told us the bloody exam was to be postponed. Sigh…..
But good news: I finally found Ma’am G’s blog. It’s at causticthoughts-gracemags.blogspot.com. Check it out
And you know, I’m going to buy a sim for my new unli phone. Well, it’s not new per se but since it’s new to me… well, you get my drift. It’s actually my mother’s but then she has a new phone so I asked for it. Long long long story. I’ll save it for some other time.
I’ve created a new account for the KHSeniors. Our new email address is khseniors07@yahoo.com.ph so please try to visit our friendster account. It’s so darn blank because my batch mates aren’t exactly known for being cooperative.
But if you guys have got pics of us please submit it to us; we’d love to post it on our profile.
That’s all for now.
I’ve been sitting on this chair for almost three hours and my butt is sore. Gotta go download anime pics from magitek-designs.net since I can’t download games and HP fan fics anyhow.
Toodles! Poof…
P.S. When I get to law school I might consider working as a DJ. I do have what it takes to yak all day long
I just hope people would listen. Why, you ask? D’oh, am I supposed to rely on my parents to fund my way through law school?
Kuya Alvin, a Kalayaan resident adviser, told us this story about his ‘children’ from third floor last year. As a sort of incident for his guys to study, he tacked a map of Middle Earth in the corridor. The territories in that map were ‘prizes’ for The Study Wars to be held in their floor. The rules of the game are much complicated than what I’m about to say but basically, the more hours you pitch into studying, the higher the possibility of you getting a territory in Middle Earth.
The winners of The Study Wars went on to become honor students. University and college scholars with GWA’s (General Weighted Averages) of 1.77 or higher.
Pardon me, but I’ve tried studying for three hours straight and it doesn’t - probably never will - work for me. Bleergh.
Toodles! Poof…
BTW, if you’re reading this, please leave a comment. I’ve been writing so many entries that haven’t garnered even just a single reaction.
I underestimated the lure of UP Diliman.
Last year, as I was queuing in front of the testing center in CU, I realized a lot of people wanted to get an affordable education from a prestigious university. But it was only yesterday that I fully comprehended just HOW MANY students are half-desperate to get into UP. Last weekend, the campus was filled with vast crowds of people milling in front of testing areas, people waiting for their children or girlfriends and perhaps praying fervently that the money spent on review centers and MSA review books was worth it. It’s not the crowds that matter though.
What’s a test without the taker? Just thinking about the thousands of students worrying about their UPCAT performance amuses and worries me. It’s amusing because I can say stuff like "Don’t worry much, just watch out for the Science section" and "If it’s for you it will be yours" with conviction and sufficient reason. But I’m also worried because I know that out of the few who will be deemed ‘gifted enough’ to enter this school only a few will choose to study here.
Why? The tuition fee’s increased. I know we, the freshies ‘07, are paying more than the upperclassmen but I wasn’t able to compare the figures properly until I heard my third year socio classmate say he only paid six thou last enrollment. Like WHAT?!?!?! The lowest freshie tuition fee I know of is 17, 000+! Even I had to pay 20, 030.50 and that’s like the average rate!
And yeah, yeah, I know that compared to other schools this fee is MINUTE, but think about it: in one year, the tuition fee rises from 6K to 20K and this is supposedly state-subsidized. Screw the government for cutting their support for the academe.
…
I’ve forgotten my parents work for the government. Basically, the state still pays for my education.
On a lighter side, the two-day UPCAT fest (’cause UPD really was in festival mode last weekend) wreaked havoc in the Sunken Garden. Trash thrown EVERY WHERE and those portalets reeking like something worse than a millenium-old sewer. I wanted to walk around the acad oval last night so the girls and I went on an evening stroll. Halfway through our little escapade, one of my friends said she needed to pee and she couldn’t make it back to the dorm anymore. So we walked to Vinzon’s but then we found out the entrance to the CR was locked. We tried to seek refuge in the School of Economics Building and we actually got past the guard-less security post but then we discovered the CR was locked, too.
In desperation, someone suggested the garden. We ditched the idea almost immediately. Who would want to pee in the SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS FRONT YARD?
But my friend couldn’t take it anymore and I realized I couldn’t take it anymore, too, so we took turns ‘tinkling’, disregarding the bright lights that were illuminating the garden, which is, by the way, visible from the main road. God knows if the SE admin has hidden cameras stuck on the tree we peed on. But as my other friend said, "They can’t take it from you anyway."
So even though the tuition’s increased, UP is still the land of the free.
I used to scoff at this sign on my friend’s shirt until I realized it was a pun. Oh well.
I lost my new umbrella this afternoon.
It was purple, and it was under the seat beside mine in Math class. I forgot it was down there, and I left without it.
When I went back after realizing I didn’t have it with me it wasn’t there no more.
And earlier, I had to muster enough confidence to just walk into DLRC (where they tutor students for FREE) and convince some of the volunteers to help me understand the bloody parabola. Like urgh, I feel asleep trying to solve it last night.
About one hour, a dozen arguments and a couple of awkward moments later I finally understood the lesson.
Thank God for the DLRC volunteers… I should bring them some Bavarian donuts some time….
Math really does complicate a student’s life but it does have some perks. For example, if your prof was a cute 20-something then you’d really want to attend his classes just to see if he’s still wearing his favorite green sneakers, right? And while you’re walking home from the Math Dep’t you’d vow to yourself that someday you’d write a story where the main character’s name is the same as his?
:D
My mom’s right. Sir Sanga was right. Math is beautiful. Finding the right answer after several arduous minutes of back-breaking, nerve-racking paper scratching and brow mopping really is satisfying.
